The Eectiveness of Using Pictures and Songs in Teaching Vocabulary to Young Learners

Abstract


In this Thesis the writer uses pictures
and songs as techniquesinteachingEnglishvo-
cabulary.Theaimthisthesisistondoutwhichoftwo
techniquesbyusingpicturesorsongsismoreeec-
tiveinteachingEnglishvocabularyto theyounglearn-
ers.Togetdatafromthesamplethewritertaugthalong3days,andthe
lastdaythewritergaveatestwithdierentquestionClas-
sAthetestthroughpicturesand ClassBthroughsongs.
Thewriterusesquantitativemethodisreportingtheresultof-
thetestthatgaveby theteacheraftertaughtEnglishvocabu-
lariesthroughpicturesandsongs. Basedonthe calculation-
above,theresultshowsthataveragepercentageofgroupA(usingpictures)is
higherthanaveragepercentageof-
groupB(usingsongs),theresultdeterminesthatthe teachin-
gEnglishvocabulariesbyusingpicturestochildrenismoreef-
fectiveandbetter thanteachingEnglishvocabulariesbyus-
ingsongs.InteachingEnglishvocabulariesare about ani-
mals,fruits, numbers, and part of body, students
are easy to remember the vocabularies because the
vocabularies using pictures, to help them memories
the vocabularies. Whereas, teaching English vocabulary
using songs is more dicult, because the children
usualy more fun to hear the song better than
memorizing the vocabularies of the lyric of songs.
