Two Word Verbs and Idiomatic Expressions in Children's Short Stories.

Abstract


Idiom is a group of words which has the dier-
ent meaning that cannot be translated word by word. Most
childrens short stories use simple sentences which are easy
to understand. The topic is very interesting and the writer
wants to know what the two word verbs and idiomatic ex-
pressions used in childrens short stories, the number and
their meanings. The aims of this study are to nd out two
word verbs and idiomatic expressions used in childrens short
stories, the number and their meanings. The method used
in this study is descriptive method. The source of the data
consists of 20 short stories taken from internet. The result
shows that there are many two word verbs are used in chil-
drens short stories (81 two word verbs) in number while
idiomatic expressions found only (4 idiomatic expressions).
The number of two word verbs ranges from (3-10) and id-
iomatic expressions ranges from (1-2) in each short story.
And the last, based on the context and dictionary, meaning
of two word verbs and idiomatic expressions suitable with
the context.
